Protecting Your Debit/Credit Card Information: Suggestions for Enhanced Online Payment Security🛡️

Nowadays, online transactions (e.g. online payments, buying e-pins, sending money, and more using debit/credit cards) are becoming much easier and a good option for everyone. When we want to buy something that we can’t find in accessible malls, we resort to searching online. Most of us are not hesitant to buy items online. There are a lot of payment options, but most online stores/e-commerce companies set debit/credit cards as their acceptable mode of payment.

Is it secure? Let’s be careful! We’ll never know who is monitoring the data we provide online. Anytime, they can anonymously or secretly copy our debit/credit card data for their personal interest, for online purchasing and the like, without our knowledge.

Here is a proposal/suggestion for debit/credit card companies: It would be good to consider an additional level of payment security when paying online or even in local stores and shopping malls. Kindly let the user confirm first the item/s to be purchased and the amount to be deducted through text/email before processing. For instance, a buyer should be notified through an SMS regarding the payment and details of their chosen goods/items. They would have to reply with a specific keyword, e.g. “YES,” to confirm their order once they have already verified all the details. Just like sharing prepaid load, one should reply to an SMS received with “YES” to proceed with the transaction.

In addition to this suggestion, there are already some existing security features that can help protect our credit card information. One such feature is the use of One-Time Passwords (OTP), which are unique codes that are sent to the user’s registered mobile number or email address and must be entered to complete a transaction. Another feature is biometric authentication, which uses the user’s unique physical characteristics (such as fingerprints or facial recognition) to verify their identity before allowing a transaction to proceed.

What are your suggestions? Let’s be tech-safe and happy!
