Generation Z: The Swipe Generation
According to TechTarget, Generation Z is the demographic cohort following Generation Y, also known as the Millennials or the Millennial Generation. Other names suggested for the cohort include iGeneration (iGen), Gen Tech, Gen Wii, Net Gen, Digital Natives, and Plurals.
Generation Z is also known as the swipe generation, where most teens today spend almost all of their time gaming, swiping, browsing, and watching digital content using their Android or iOS smartphones. It’s an uncontrollable feeling - they can’t live without having a smartphone on hand. Indeed, smartphones are not just gadgets but a necessity! As they say: “Selfie first before eating, doing chores, going to work, etc.”
However, it’s important for parents of Generation Z (the swipe generation) to help their children refrain from or control their digital routines. Here are 3 tips for parents to reconnect with their children and promote a harmonious and happy family:
- Set a schedule for family bonding time over the weekends - go swimming, hiking, biking, etc.
- Relive childhood games - play marbles, rubber bands, and more.
- Gardening and tree planting - spend time with nature. Go green! Plant trees and grow veggies and fruits.
No Wi-Fi or data connection is needed for all these three tips. By following these tips, parents can help their children disconnect from their digital routines and reconnect with the world around them.
